Merton: Our largest London service has a range of services for people accessing secondary health care:

  • Mainstream - supporting people into Employment, education, volunteering, sport & leisure, arts & culture, faith and cultural communities
  • Befriending - providing additional capacity to Mainstream, training and matching volunteers to support clients into accessing activities of their choice
  • Women's group - providing a service in a safe environment to all women (not exclusively mental health) - activities include holistic therapies, relaxation. Encourages peer support and user involvement in running activities
  • 4 drop-in services around the borough, run across various days providing social interaction and a range of activities. People are encouraged to volunteer in running the services

Developments in 2009 include working in partnership with Sutton and Merton PCT to work in primary care supporting people to access mainstream activities with emphasis on employment, delivering mental health awareness training to PCT staff in Sutton and Merton and developing taster sessions in community settings to enable service user totake a step towards mainstream
